If you've recently been defriended it's because you never comment! I doubt the ppl I defriended will even notice, but if I was mistaken let me know

Just removed a bunch of inactive journals mostly. Doubt any of them will notice :P I have a hard time removing people even when they have been gone for years. If you ever come back just let me know and I'll add you again. I even deleted the guy who invited me to LJ in the first place (yes you needed invites) almost NINE YEARS AGO. I may be cutting more, I've decided to just keep active posters & commenters here no point having a graveyard of inactive friends.

Edit: Holy crap I just removed 80 friends. So many inactive journals.

Just in case I want to move over to DW. Also good for reading any of my old lj friends who move here.

Qua's Guide to the Music of Argentina

Ok I was asked about music in Spanish, and really my area of expertise is Argentina! So I thought I would make a wee post.... and it got kind of long! I should just stop now before it gets out of hand :) Artists are organised roughly by genres, and I linked to example songs on youtube. I could just keep doing this forever, haha, but I think I have the main artists :) Umm also it's difficult to pick my favourites. If you would like more information about an artist, please let me know. I didn't want to write paragraphs here! It's already long enough! Feel free to share. Enjoy :) Click! )

This inspires me.. :) I know art has become necessary to me - especially writing. Since I am trying to keep a journal everyday (on paper, tho gods know I write enough in this one too *g*) I find that the more I write, the more I need to write. The more I seem to find my style, to find a way to get my feelings and experiences to flow onto paper. Though my painting becomes a form of this too - and my languages. My mum was given French magnetic poetry for Xmas and I have been having fun composing strange and cryptic (and hopefully grammatically correct) poems in French. I guess I hope that when I am reunited with my guitar in Chch, it can become a similar outlet too. Hmm.. :) Although all this does mean that I tend to sit around on my ass thinking and writing. Occasionally baking. Mostly just lost in thought, lost in dreams. But not really lost, no, actually I think I'm always finding parts of myself, aren't I?

From Letters to a Young Poet (this from letter #1, 17 February 1903) In German and English. At least, I hope I found the right German passage, I really don't know any German. ^^ I am too in love with Rilke, hehe ;)
Go into yourself. Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depths of your heart; confess to yourself whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write. )

The Archipelago of Kisses

We live in a modern society. Husbands and wives don't
grow on trees, like in the old days. So where
does one find love? When you're sixteen it's easy,
like being unleashed with a credit card
in a department store of kisses. There's the first kiss.
The sloppy kiss. The peck.
The sympathy kiss. The backseat smooch. The we
shouldn't be doing this kiss. The but your lips
taste so good kiss. The bury me in an avalanche of tingles kiss.
The I wish you'd quit smoking kiss.
The I accept your apology, but you make me really mad
sometimes kiss. The I know
your tongue like the back of my hand kiss. As you get
older, kisses become scarce. You'll be driving
home and see a damaged kiss on the side of the road,
with its purple thumb out. If you
were younger, you'd pull over, slide open the mouth's
red door just to see how it fits. Oh where
does one find love? If you rub two glances, you get a smile.
Rub two smiles, you get a warm feeling.
Rub two warm feelings and presto-you have a kiss.
Now what? Don't invite the kiss over
and answer the door in your underwear. It'll get suspicious
and stare at your toes. Don't water the kiss with whiskey.
It'll turn bright pink and explode into a thousand luscious splinters,
but in the morning it'll be ashamed and sneak out of
your body without saying good-bye,
and you'll remember that kiss forever by all the little cuts it left
on the inside of your mouth. You must
nurture the kiss. Turn out the lights. Notice how it
illuminates the room. Hold it to your chest
and wonder if the sand inside hourglasses comes from a
special beach. Place it on the tongue's pillow,
then look up the first recorded kiss in an encyclopedia: beneath
a Babylonian olive tree in 1200 B.C.
But one kiss levitates above all the others. The
intersection of function and desire. The I do kiss.
The I'll love you through a brick wall kiss.
Even when I'm dead, I'll swim through the Earth,
like a mermaid of the soil, just to be next to your bones.

Wheee... :) Life ain't so bad all of a sudden! In fact, I'm in a great mood. I've spent the day lost in various languages, mostly Spanish & Mandarin. Why does it fascinate me to become so immersed? It's more than their beauty, their differences. There's something inside of me that longs to find expression in this way. It's like they all call to me, in their own little ways. Each with its own secrets to be teased out.. to be flirted with, to be enraptured by. I find myself dreaming in other languages a lot - lately it has been Spanish and Mandarin, but for some reason I do frequently have dreams in Hindi too. It's like they get inside of me, somehow they become a part of me which is essential. How do these languages weave their way in, so close? And yet they are so tantalising... I always long for more. To get deeper into every language I study, to learn more languages. Never quite satiated, yet always satisfied. As if I could never quite express myself, so I am always searching. As if it is the air I breathe.. one can never get sick of it. It flows through me.. it makes me think of the crisp, heady, drug-like air you breathe when lost in the forest. Mmmm...

I only just discovered this amazing poet, Federico García Lorca, and I fell in love. He has some amazing poetry.. but I especially like his ghazals (gacelas). And of course, I had to find the Spanish version too :) More of his poetry here (en español - apparently it's more difficult to find him in English)

Gacela De La Muerte Oscura
No quiero que me repitan que los muertos no pierden la sangre;
un rato, un minuto, un siglo;
pero que todos sepan que no he muerto;
que haya un establo de oro en mis labios;
que soy un pequeño amigo del viento Oeste;
para aprender un llanto que me limpie de tierra;

Do you remember still the falling stars
that like swift horses through the heavens raced
and suddenly leaped across the hurdles
of our wishes--do you recall? And we
did make so many! For there were countless numbers
of stars: each time we looked above we were
astounded by the swiftness of their daring play,
while in our hearts we felt safe and secure
watching these brilliant bodies disintegrate,
knowing somehow we had survived their fall.

Wow. The things insomnia makes you do! About 90 Bollywood bases underneath. *tries to pretend she didn't just spend all night mucking around online, mostly with Bollywood pics* It's disgraceful, I'm sick atm too.. I should be able to sleep, I need to sleep, but no. Shahrukh and friends kept me awake :( (ha, as if I mind)
